FLAMENGO FUTSAL: The Severna Park-based DCFA Flamengo, a U14 girls futsal team, defended their USFF Northeastern Regional Championship at the York (Pa.) Expo Center.
The girls received a dramatic goal from center Lindsey Lane with 19 seconds remaining to prevail 2-1 against the Explosion Elite of the Boston area. Lane made the championship-winning play off an assist from Bridget Bielski. Lane had an assist in the first half, setting up Gracyn Bryant to tie the game at 1-1.
The Flamengo dropped a 4-2 decision to Explosion Elite in bracket play, but Flamengo's 3-1 record and superior goal differential still earned the Severna Parkers the top seed. The team defeated DTS Futsal Academy of New Jersey 12-2 in their semifinal match. Anna Mellis scored four goals to lead the onslaught. Delia Rapasky, Mo Ostrowski, Jen Riley, Kourtney McLain and Bryant all scored in the one-sided semifinal. Defenders Nicole Gernert and Tori Bellucci teamed up with goalie Bielski to hold the high-scoring Elite to one goal.
